Achievement of the correct lighting quality for painting using passive solar principles is the primary objective of this small studio design. The derivation of the section begins with the assumption of a working wall on the Northern side which is illuminated indirectly from three sources. 4 insulated concrete sandwich panels are cast on site and erected by crane in a day. The southern wall panel acts structurally as a deep concrete beam, opening space below for fenestration and large sliding doors. The eastern and western walls act as rigid book ends capturing the space, light and mass within.
